SCIENTIFIC ADJUNCT POSITION

Laboratory for Audio-Visual
Communications
Communication Systems
Division
A position of "Scientific
Adjunct", which is a senior research position, is to be filled at the Laboratory
for Audio-Visual Communications. The position involves defining and leading
research projects, participating in Ph.D. supervision, and being involved
in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
The areas of interest are
broadly defined as signal processing and communication systems. Examples
of interest areas are theoretical signal processing (e.g. wavelet
and applications), multiresolution image processing and vision (e.g. image
reconstruction), and compression and communication (e.g. joint source-channel
coding, packet video).
Candidates should have a
Ph.D. in one of the areas mentioned above, several years of research experience
at the post-doctoral level (either in academia or industry), a good publication
track record, and intellectual leadership qualities.

Description summary /
role
The Operations Research
Analyst directly supports the European MCS Area with Management Decision
Support, Quantitative/qualitative analyses and Process consulting for critical
management decisions.
These decisions involve
the development of new Area or World-wide organizational structures, service
strategies, and new service delivery techniques. Continuous improvement
of operations effectiveness, efficiency and quality are key criteria for
this job. Implementation of these decisions has strong direct impact on
operations.
Position requires experience
with various management and analytical tools, strong interpersonal skills,
and the ability to understand and solve complex business problems. The
ability to use modelling tools and represent business processes as models
is a request.
Manages/Works with internal
and/or external consultants and analysts supporting these activities.
Maintains close contacts
with counterparts in the other two MCS World-Wide Areas to ensure common
approaches to reporting, measurements and analyses.
Plays an active role in
defining future Corporate reporting requirements and co-ordinates this
within the European Area with the service providers, operations analysts
in the countries and the Territories.
Resposabilities
-
Takes the initiative to identify
and define MCS opportunities and issues (in areas of organizational structures,
services strategies, new service delivery techniques and others). Recommends
decision criteria.

Supports the management decision
process using extensive MCS knowledge and/or state-of-the-art techniques
such as statistical research, benchmarking etc.

Generates and evaluates alternatives;
exstimates risks and performs sensitivity analyses.

Resposible for projects undertaken
and leads projects requiring more than one consultant or analyst.

Responsible for defining the
appropriate tools and reporting mechanisms for MCS Europe.

Serves as intra-group organizational
and/or technical consultant in support of MCS Staff and their projects.

Develops recommendations and
communicates them by presentations and formal reports to senior management.

Works with the various service
providers to develop an effective plan for implementing recommended solutions
and for tracking and assessing their impacts on the business.
Education
MBA or MS in Management,
Operations Research or equivalent.
Experience
-
3-5 years in external or internal
Operations Research type function.
-
Experience in computer industry
desirable but not essential.
Knowledge
-
Expertise in several areas such
as statistical analysis/modelling, competitive analysis, quality management,
benchmarking.
-
Good written and oral communication
skills in English.
-
High degree of applied business
skill and some project management skills.
-
Good understanding of Digital
MCS and Service Delivery processes.
