Dear IFORS National Representative,
As you know the 15th triennial
IFORS World Conference on Operational Research is to take place in Beijing,
August 16-20, 1999. Program planning is already well under way, with some
20 or more people around the world having agreed to arrange sessions or
streams of invited papers on a variety of topics, including both theory
and applications of OR, and both traditional and newer OR themes. Tutorial
sessions and applications of OR have been promised. A great program is
thus shaping up.
The formal call for papers
is just published. As a member of IFORS, your society is entitled to nominate
a national contribution, i.e. a paper selected by your society to
be presented by one of your members, and representing OR activities in
your country. National contributions will specifically be flagged as such
in the conference program. The selection is entirely up to your society.
Note that papers must be in English. If authors wish so, national contributions
will be considered for publication in the special volumes of the journal
International Transactions of Operational Research devoted to the
proceedings of the 1999 conference. The papers will be subject to the normal
refereeing procedures adopted by the journal. The full text is required
by May 31, 1999. Prof. Theo Stewart will serve as guest Editor of the special
volumes.
Although 1999 may still
seem quite far away, there is a need to begin thinking soon about the selection
of your national contribution. The most important deadline which needs
to be observed at this time is that titles, author's names, and abstracts
of not more than 100 words for each national contribution have to be received
not later than September 30, 1998.
Looking forward to hearing
from you,
Yours sincerely,
Paolo Toth
Chairman of IFORS'99
Program Committee
Titles, author's names,
abstracts of not more than 100 words, and if possible draft papers for
the Swiss national contribution have to be sent to the SVOR /ASRO office,
Grossmattstrasse 38, 4133 Pratteln, not later than April 30, 1998.
