ECCO XV Conference in Lugano
May 30 - June 01, 2002
Theme
ECCO is the annual meeting of the EURO working group on combinatorial optimization. This group was created in 1987 by a group of leading experts in Operations Research and Management Science. It is suitable for people who are presently engaged in combinatorial optimization, either in theoretical aspects or in business, industry or public administration applications. This conference gives researchers an opportunity to present their latest research and to discuss current developments and applications, besides stimulating closer future interaction between members of this scientific community. Topics of interest are all fields from combinatorial optimization, e.g. logistics, production, scheduling, resource and operations management, flexible manufacturing, VLSI design, network design, telecommunication.

Pre-announcement
of a
Seminar in Operations
Research
May 31st, 2002 - 8:30am-6:00pm
Polydôme, EPFL
"Recent methodological advances in Dynamic Traffic Management Systems"
Prof. Moshe Ben-Akiva, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Dr. Michel Bierlaire, Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne
Prof. André de Palma, Université de Cergy-Pontoise
Dr. Haris Koutsopoulos, VOLPE National Transportation Systems Center, US DOT
The speakers will present recent methodological advances in models and algorithms for Intelligent Transportation Systems, and, in particular, for Dynamic Traffic Management Systems. The four speakers have been involved in major research projects in this field in the United States and Europe. The seminar will highlight the important methodological and practical roles played by operations research methods and modern traffic simulation tools.
The seminar will be organized around three types of applications: real-time operations, planning studies and system evaluations. In each context, the seminar will describe the application of traffic simulation, demand modeling, day-to-day learning and behavioral models of users response to traveler information and traffic control. Software tools based on these methodologies will be presented (DynaMIT, MITSIMLab, METROPOLIS). Real-world case-studies will illustrate the discussions.
Researchers, students and practitioners in operations research and transportation are invited.
A formal announcement, with details about registration will be provided soon.
